Man charged in connection with Enfield car-jacking

A 50-year-old man was remanded in custody when he appeared at Navan District Court today (Sunday) charged with an alleged hijacking incident in Enfield, Co Meath last Wednesday.
Michael McDonagh, Whitestown Avenue,Mulhuddart, Dublin was charged with attempting to get into a car, the property of a named person, at Supervalu, Enfield while the car was stationary. Garda Jill Mangan gave evidence of arresting the accused yesterday (Saturday) and conveying him to Trim Garda Station. She gave evidence before Judge Dermot Dempsey today that the accused replied "no comment" when charged.
The judge remanded the accused in custody to Trim District Court next Thursday with consent to bail of €1,000 (€500 in cash) and an independent surety of €1,000. Conditions attached to bail were that he would live at his present address, that he would obey a curfew from 9pm to 6am, sign on daily at Blanchardstown Garda Station between 9am and 9pm, that he provide a mobile phone number to Gardai and be available at that number, and to stay out of Meath except for court hearings or legal consultation. Defending solicitor Miriam Regan applied for and was granted free legal aid on behalf of the accused.
