Tom's Field remembered as Nallys create 70 jobs in Dunboyne SuperValu opening
SuperValu has opened a state of the art, 15,200 square feet store in Dunboyne. Nally’s Dunboyne store will anchor an overall 25,000 square feet new town centre development which incorporates four adjacent units, office accommodation and Frank and Honest cafe, Ireland’s number one gourmet coffee brand.
The SuperValu Dunboyne store is operated by the Nally Group, who own and run a number of SuperValu stores in the wider area, including stores in Trim and Kilcock. The Dunboyne store will provide a major employment boost for Dunboyne, with 70 jobs created.
The new store was opened on Thursday by Carmel Nally, the mother of Steven and Michael Nally and Steven’s son Nathan – a three generation involvement, a rare sight in the grocery retail landscape today. Steven and Michael grew up very close to Dunboyne in Kilcloon and the opening of this store with its €12m investment demonstrates their confidence in the local community and the local economy of Dunboyne.
Nally’s SuperValu is located on a site formerly known as Tom’s Field, after the late Tom Yourrell. Tom was a widely-known and respected businessman in the Dunboyne community, but it is for his involvement in GAA circles in the local area that is best remembered for.
To mark the significance and importance of the store’s location to the local community, Nallys have included reference to Tom’s Field in the new store’s branding. The store is also continuing Tom’s proud tradition of supporting the local GAA with SuperValu Dunboyne sponsoring the Dunboyne senior ladies’ football team.
Speaking at the official opening, Steven Nally said: “Having grown up in the local area, we are delighted to open this new, state-of-the-art store to serve the local community. We are confident that our store, range and team will make a real difference to the people of Dunboyne and its surrounding areas. Tom’s Field has huge significance locally and we are delighted to continue this tradition by acknowledging our location on our signage and sponsoring the senior ladies’ football team.
“The new store will also allow us to build on Nallys’ commitment to supporting local through the delivery of the best quality, locally-sourced fresh food, value and service that the Dunboyne community deserves.”
The state-of-the-art store will include a scratch bakery; deli counter offering a large salad and cold meat selection; rotisserie, fish and butcher counter with two fully-qualified butchers in-store to share their top tips and advice on choosing the best cuts for any dish.
Reflecting consumers’ changing tastes, SuperValu Dunboyne will also offer shoppers a vegetarian and vegan range as well as providing a health and wellness zone.
SuperValu Dunboyne provides free customer Wi-Fi, a free car park for customers, with 140 spaces and will also operate an online, click and collect service.
Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu said, “Today’s store opening in Dunboyne demonstrates the strength of SuperValu’s independent community retail model which underpins many communities across Ireland in terms of employment and supporting local producers, suppliers, GAA club and local charities. Entrepreneurs like Steven and Michael Nally are to be commended for bringing their vision to the forefront and providing stores that provide a shopping experience that is unique to its community while also being top class in the range, value and service it provides.”
