Makem and Clancy Take Two - the sons return to Keady where it all began
The eagerly awaited Makem and Clancy concert takes place in the Tommy Makem Arts and Community Centre in Keady on Tuesday 16th April. Patrons from America, Britain and the four provinces of Ireland will gather to be part of a unique celebration of a musical legacy which began in Keady 64 years ago when Tommy Makem met Liam Clancy for the very first time.
Rory Makem and Donal Clancy, are sure to give a strong commanding performance in memory of their illustrious fathers. Both are accomplished crafters of stage, musicians, singers and story tellers with several years of performing behind them. Their repertoire is broad and includes a range of the folk classics made famous by their fathers, uproarious drinking songs, rousing outlaw renditions, sea shanties, tender love songs, ditties of humour and devilment along with self-penned contemporary folk songs. The concert will be engaging and uplifting, interlaced with anecdotes, reflections and stories and embellished with powerful accompaniment on several instruments including guitar, banjo, whistle, and concertina.
"This is the event that I have been dreaming about for years, performing a concert in Keady, the hometown of my father which he always referred to as ‘The hub of the universe'" Rory Makem says. "I know he meant that. Our only other Irish concert is in Clonmel Tipperary, on Saturday 13th April.”
