Quickfire double for Elliott at Aintree
After drawing a blank on the opening day of the Aintree Grand National Festival Longwood trainer Gordon Elliott produced a quickfire double at the Liverpool track today (Friday) with Three Musketeers and Feklix Desjy giving jockey Jack Kennedy a double.
Returning at 8/1 Three Musketeers had a lenght and three-quarters to spare over 25/1 shot Point of Principle, with favourite Tedham unplaced in the Grade 3 Handicap Hurdle over two miles, four furlongs. Barry Geraghty's Canardier was third.
Three Musketeers was making his debut for Elliott after switching from Dan Skelton's yard.
Just over a half-hour later Elliott was back in the winner's enclosure when Felix Desjy had a lenght-and-a-half to spare when seeing off Ruby walsh's Aramon in the Grade 1 Novice Hurdle.
"It was brilliant and it worked out ideal. He likes his own way and he got it today. He was very game. I could hear Aramon coming at me in the commentary but he kept on going," Kennedy told ITV Racing.
Kennedy picked up a four-day suspension for use of the whip above the permitted level on Three Musketeers.
Dunshaughlin rider Keith Donoghue will miss the ride on Outlander in tomorrow's Grand National after the horse was sold.
