Over the weekend, Navan Athletic Club said it was sad to report the passing of two people with strong connections to the club over the past few days.
Ena Tobin represented both Navan AC and Drogheda and District AC and will be remembered as someone who always tried to run with a smile on her face. Her family have been involved in the club for many years and her sister Sonya is currently a club coach.
Nuala Byrne, mother of club secretary Fiona, was heavily involved in the formation of Navan AC and the running of Claremont Stadium for many years alongside her husband Robbie and is fondly remembered for her hard work keeping everyone fed at various fundraisers at Claremont over the years.
"Deepest sympathies to the Byrne and Tobin families on their loss," it added.
Meath GAA held a minute's silence before all championship games at the weekend, and the fixtures of Simonstown Gaels, where Ena's brother, county player, Sean, is a member, were cancelled.
"On behalf of the membership of the club we wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to Séan and the Tobin family on the tragic death of Ann (Ena) Tobin," the club said. "Séan is an integral part of our senior team and the club and the family have been strong supporters throughout the years."
