Goals help Gaels power their way to victory

With the help of goals from Ben Hoey and Mark McCabe Simonstown secured a 2-8 to 1-9 victory over Wolfe Tones in the SFC at Brews Hill this evening. 

This was a very poignant evening for the Simonstown Gaels club with a minute's silence before the start in memory of Ena (Ann) Tobin sister of Sean Tobin  who tragically passed away in a road accident last week. Sean took his place on the starting 15 for Simonstown and played a big part in ensuring his team started their campaign with a win. 

The Gaels made a storming start to the game forging into a 1-4 to 1-0 lead after 14 minutes with their goal scored by Ben Hoey. Mark McCabe was fouled in the square, Hoey's penalty kick was brilliantly saved by Wolfe Tones 'keeper Trevor Browne but Hoey picked up the rebound and fired to the net. 

Hoey  added two points to his opening half tally and with Shane Barry and Padraig McKeever also firing over Simonstown led 1-4 to 1-3 at the break. The Wolfe Tones goal was scored directly from a penalty by Cian Ward after Eanna O'Kelly-Lynch was fouled early on. 

A point from Tomas O'Reilly early in the second-half hauled the sides level but Simonstown grabbed a second goal scored by McCabe and this was to prove crucial as they finished the entertaining contest the stronger side with late points from McKeever and Andrew Kearney wrapping up the win.
