Political leaders descending on county

The county will be awash with politicians over the next few days as canvassing for the local and European elections steps up another gear.
Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin will be with European candidate for Midlands North West, Brendan Smith, and county council candidates, in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunshaughlin, between 2pm and 7pm on Thursday.
The co-leaders of the Social Democrats, Róisín Shortall and Catherine Murphy will visit Meath this week.
In Navan on Friday, they will launch the party's ‘Fair Funding for Local Authorities’ policy document calling for an overhaul of the out-dated system of funding of local authorities and fairer allocation of local property tax. Meath County Council has the poorest funding of any local authority in Ireland – our current system is in need of radical change.
They will visit  Trim, Navan town centre, Ashbourne and Laytown with local election candidates.
In Trim on Friday, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, will address the annual delegate conference of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
The event marks the organisation’s 100th year, and the theme of this year’s conference is 'Reflecting on the Past, Navigating the Present, Modelling for the Future.'
An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be joined by MEP candidate Mairead McGuinness and Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee for a canvass in Kells, at 4pm on Friday 10th May, while Matt Carthy, Sinn Fein MEP and Europan candidate, will be in Navan on Friday afternoon.
