Shock at news of death of popular GAA player
There was widespread shock today following the news that popular Navan man and Bective Cannistown GAA club player, Greg Hogge has died.
Posting on the club's Facebook page a spokesperson said:
"Our club woke today to the tragic and devastating news of the sudden and unexpected passing of one of our own, Greg Hogge. "Greg was a dedicated player for Bective GFC from underage right through to the adult ranks and captain of our current B League team. He was a committed and dedicated player on the field and a gentleman off the field. Greg was a very popular member of our club and will be sadly missed.
"On behalf of everyone in Bective GFC we express our deepest sympathy to Greg's family his heartbroken parents Pat and Jean, his brothers Shane, Brian and Stephen, his sisters Ciara and Sinéad, his loving girlfriend Aisling, his Godchild Saoirse, brothers-in-law Robbie & Terry, sisters-in-law Aoife, Denise & Marta, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, Godparents Noel and Evelyn, relatives and a large circle of friends."
The funeral arrangements are as follows: Reposing at his home from 2pm to 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Removal on Monday morning at 9:15am to arrive in St. Mary’s Church, Navan for Funeral Mass at 10am. Burial afterwards in Cannistown Cemetery.
News of Greg's death came on the same day that a Rathfeigh man who critically injured in a cycle road race last Sunday has died.
Sean Lynch suffered severe injuries in a crash which occurred near New Ross at 2pm.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Wexford General Hospital. He passed away at 11.06am today (Thursday, 9th May)
