Kells choir delighted with Navan choral win

Inspire Choral Group, under the direction of Nessa Olohan, was delighted to be placed first in the Popular Music category at Navan Choral Festival in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan, on Sunday. The choir, which has grown to over 30 members in the last year, celebrated their first win at the competition after many strong runner up performances in the past few years.

Their winning performance included 'You Will Be Found', from the hit musical 'Dear Evan Hansen', and featured soloist Rebecca Beirne whose brave performance was highly commended by the judges. Their second piece was an A Capella version of White Winter Hymnal, the Fleet Foxes song made popular by Pentatonix. The performance earned a score of 90 from the adjudicators and was enough to put them ahead of 11 competing choirs for the top spot.

Inspire Choral Group will hope to bring the momentum with them as they travel to New Ross, Co Wexford, next weekend for the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) annual Choral Festival to compete again. That will be just the start of their busy summer as they will return to Kells for the Hinterland Festival where they will be performing alongside Celtic Tenor Matthew Gilsenan on Saturday 29th June in the Headfort Arms Hotel.

Inspire Choral Group has gone from strength to strength since forming more the six years ago. Last year saw the choir record their first studio album 'True Colours' which was launched in December to rave reviews from happy punters in Kells. The choir are always on the hunt for new members (especially men!) and rehearse every Wednesday night in the Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells at 8pm.
