Music month continues in Navan with Fleadh Cheoil na Mí  2019

Fleadh Cheoil na Mí  2019 (Meath County Fleadh)  is taking place from 14th to 19th May in Navan,  involving all branches of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann within the county, when,  apart from holding a six-day festival of traditional music, song and dance, there will be a series of competitions to award the best fiddlers,  pipers, harpists and all other instruments, groups, bands, dancers, singers and story-tellers.  The successful competition winners will go forward to Fleadh Laighean (Leinster)  which, this year,  takes place in Athboy in July,   and hopefully, many will then qualify for the All Ireland  Fleadh  which returns to Drogheda in August. 

The Fleadh opened with the Navan Singing Club in the Lantern on Tuesday and The Lantern hosted a ‘Mighty Session’ on Wednesday night.
Thursday will start with an all-county junior session in the Central,  followed by a senior session in Fox’s of Flower Hill,  and an Oiche Gaelach in Fitzsimons’s. Friday will have an open-air session on the Fair Green  and the Dancing Competitions that evening in the community centre followed by a short Ceili.  Saturday will have more open-air music in the town,  the Fleadh Mass in St Mary’s and another ‘Mighty Session’ that night.   Sunday 19th  is the main competition day,  starting early in St Josephs (Mercy) Secondary School,  and finishing up that evening with our regular Sunday Session in the Central.
