Former TD buried today had cast his vote in local elections

The former Meath TD and senator, Michael Lynch, who was buried today, had already voted in today's local elections.
Mr Lynch, who served as a Fianna Fail Dail deputy for two terms in the 1980s, and was a senator, exercised his postal vote, according to his daughter, Noeline Markey.
“Nicky & I travelled from Oldcastle to Kiltale to vote this morning, the day of my lovely Dad's funeral,” she posted on Facebook today.
 “Unwell as he was, he voted himself last week by postal vote. No greater tribute to him - use your vote today,” she added.  

Aged 84, Michael Lynch, died on Tuesday night at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. He was aged 84.
Mr Lynch, of Oldcastle in north Meath, was a Dail deputy for Meath from February to November 1982, and a senator from 1983 before being re-elected to the Dail from 1987 to 1989.
A publican who ran the Ceili House in Oldcastle, he was a member of the Lynch Brothers Ceili Band, and prominent in Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann.

Former taoiseach Brian Cowen delivered a graveside oration today at the funeral which was attended by another former taoiseach and Meath TD, John Bruton.
He said he had heard of Meath and Westmeath, but it wasn't until he met Michael Lynch, that he realised there was a “North Meath”.
Mr Lynch's son, Marty, said it was apt that as a former publican and politician, his father died at closing time and was being buried on local election day.
