Caution urged on roads around Kilmessan as cycle race takes place

Skane Wheelers Cycling Club in Kilmessan holds its annual road race, the Kilmessan GP, tomorrow, Sunday 26th May. This is a very popular race and usually draws a large crowd of cyclists and supporters from around the country.

Due to the amount of extra traffic the race brings to the village, the organisers have this year moved the HQ of the race to the hurling pitch and clubhouse on the Ringlestown road. Hopefully this will ensure that the village will still be reasonably free for Mass goers and other village users on the morning of the race.

 

The route will start at the hurling pitch and take the road towards Dunsany, turning left for Ross Cross, then left there as far up as Garlow Cross, left here and back in by Royal Tara Golf Club, 19 km in total. If you are planning on using these roads between 9.30am and approx. 4pm, please use caution and let’s try keep everyone safe.

As a precaution Bus Eireann will be changing the route of the 109B bus for the duration of the race to avoid congestion on the Kilmessan to Dunsany road at Swainstown hill. Instead, the Dublin bound bus will exit the village via the Kiltale road and back in at Batterjohn cross towards Dunsany where it will re-join the route towards Dunshaughlin. The opposite route will apply for the Trim bound bus. The bus times that this will affect will be as follows, the 11.07am and 15.07pm from Kilmessan to Dunsany and the 12.12pm and 16.12pm from Dunsany to Kilmessan.
