Meath designers take bite out of big apple
Two Meath designers have been selected to participate in a prestigious pop-up event for new emerging talent in New York. Clare O'Connor (right) and Carol O'Connor who were both finalists in this year's Meath Style Awards are preparing to travel to Williamsburg in Brooklyn for the event run by renowned designer Karen Thomas.
"I got an email asking if I wanted to participate in this pop-up in New York from a designer who had seen my work on Instagram," comments Clare, adding: "Carol like myself comes from an Art background and she creates beautiful hairbands, belts and hats using her own printed fabrics. I felt we really complimented each other, both of us use our art as our inspiration so I asked her to join me and we are both now heading off to New York this week with the help of Lorna Cooney from the Meath Economic and Enterprise Team with Meath Local Enterprise."

"We are thrilled that they are supporting two design businesses from Meath. Meath is well known for the Ancient East monuments and for so many Boyne Valley Food companies so it is brilliant to highlight design and fashion from the area."
The duo are hoping to make the most of their time in the big apple as Clare explains,
Milliner Carol O' Connor also uses art as inspiration
"We are both hoping to connect with some key buyers while we are over stateside and really make the most of the trip in terms of exploring the export market potentials over there. We are both bringing our new collections with us and plan to approach buyers with these.
"The event organisers were looking for sustainable, small emerging brands. My work is based on my paintings so essentially they are editions of my paintings and my collections are seasonless. I'd like people to keep them as collectables and timeless pieces. The organiser was looking for designers who had that similar ethos and Carol works in the same way.
"We can't wait. We are so excited. We are also going to try to do some photo shoots while we are there and take advantage of the amazing backdrop."
