Royals lose to Models

Behind most of the way Meath eventually lost out to Wexford 1-8 to 1-11 in the Leinster Ladies IFC final at Dr Cullen Park today.

The Wexford side who had a powerful midfield combination in Kellie Kearney and Bernie Breen were able to stitch together the scores on a regular basis to take home the silverware. 

Meath struggled for spells to get scores against and stubborn Model County backline who gave their opponents little time or space. At the break Wexford led 1-5 to 0-5 and they managed to stay in front in the second-half although at one stage their advantage was reduced to the minimum. 

Eamon Murray's team dominated the closing stages and had a number of chances to score goals and points but they were unable to take full advantage. 

Emma Duggan finished up as Meath's main markswoman with 1-5, her goal coming from the penalty spot early in the second-half after Kelsey Nesbitt was fouled.  

Nesbitt, Vikki Wall and Bridgetta Lynch also pointed for the Royals over the course of the game but they were unable to get the second goal they so badly needed. They came close in the dying seconds when Wall fired inches wide. Then the chance was gone and Wexford were home and dry.
