Bus Eireann abandons Fair Green stop for Abbey Road
As work continues on Railway Street, Navan, both the bus stop on Railway Street and the stop at Market Square will now be relocated to Abbey Road.
When the northern section of Railway Street, from the Solstice roundabout to the bottom of Brews Hill, closed to traffic last week, the northbound bus stop at Railway Street was relocated to the Fairgreen, but Bus Eireann has announced this week that both the Railway Street and Market Square bus stops will now be relocated to the recently constructed bus stops and shelter at Abbey Road from Sunday (14th July).
During the works, the northern end of Railway Street will be closed to vehicular traffic until Sunday the 25th August at 10pm to facilitate underground works. This will then allow for one-way traffic to return to Railway Street whilst the remainder of the works on the street are completed, such as new footpaths, public lighting upgrades, fibre broadband ducting to properties etc.
These works are anticipated to continue until the end of January next year. The work is to facilitate two way traffic on the street.
Meanwhile, the southern end of Railway Street from the railway crossing to the roundabout remains open as normal and businesses along the length of Railway Street and surrounding areas of Trimgate Street, Canon Row and Brews Hill are all open for business with Meath Co Council offering half price parking for the duration of the road closure.
Businesses in the southern end of Railway Street were anxious to point out that the area from the Trim Road to the Solstice roundabout is open as normal.
Local businesswoman, Jenny Fitzsimons points out that her hairdressing business is located across from the old county council offices and she is concerned that people are unaware that the road outside her business is still open to traffic.
“The old county council car park is open to the public for a daily rate of €3 and is free on Saturdays,” she says.
The work to facilitate two way traffic on all of Railway Street is part of the overall Navan 2030 project which will see a complete overhaul of the town’s traffic system over the next two to three years, including bus bays on either side of a widened Kennedy Road, a park and ride facility on the Kells Road and the reversal of traffic flow on to Market Square from Ludlow Street.
