Kilmessan Shield game in Dundalk abandoned
No rest for the hard-working North East Football League (NEFL) disciplinary committee members despite the mid-season break this week after a top-flight game was abandoned in Dundalk on Friday night.
Trim Celtic made the trip to the Wee County for an eagerly-awaited showdown with Muirhevnamor in a knock-out Kilmessan Shield quarter-final tie.
However, the game failed to get through the full 90 minutes and was abandoned in the 67th minute with hosts Muirhevnamor leading by 2-1 and Trim pushing for an equaliser.
Following some exchanges between players from both teams the referee duly abandoned the contest.
The NEFL will now have to wait for the refeeree's report before they cand eal with the matter, but it is understood that it was a serious incident.
However, as the mid-season break is in place from today (Sunday 14th July) until Sunday 28th July the disciplinary committee will have ample time to assess the report and conduct hearings into the matter which could also be referred to the FAI.
This season saw the introduction of a new calendar year season North East Football League season and the action kicked-off in March with a series of Shield games.
Interestingly, a moton put forward by Muirhevnamor for the AGM last February proposed the disciplinary hearings from the league should be conducted via Skype. It wasn't successful.
Arising out of Friday's night's abandonment, officials from both teams are likely to be summoned to a disciplinary meeting.
