Leinster Blitz at O'Mahonys
Navan O’Mahonys clubhouse and playing pitches were a hive of activity this morning as the club hosted the prestigious Leinster Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others one-day blitz.
Navan O’Mahonys Well Being Officer Eunice Murtagh was on duty early this morning and welcomed Leinster officials to the venue including provincial LGFA president Dominic Leech who addressed the participants before the official warm up.
In charge of the warm up was Stephen Mac Gabhann who made sure all the ladies, representing close to 40 teams, were ready for action that got underway on seven pitches at 12.30 and will continue until around 4.30pm
The Navan O'Mahonys Gaelic for Mothers & Others team started in May 2016 and the initiative has proved popular and successful.
The idea behind it was to offer an opportunity to the many mothers who would regularly drop their children at training and then stand on the sidelines and wait until it was over.
“These women are an integral part of the GAA community, but were more or less ignored,” stated Eunice Murtagh who was the driving force behind the initiative.
Today the Leinster president presented a bouquet of flowers to Eunice in recognigition of her efforts.
Nine teams from Meath clubs are currently in action at the blitz.
