Knockharley bid for Leinster success
Meath’s Knockharley Cricket Club is set to host the Cricket Leinster Minor Cup final today.
Located just seven miles from Navan close to Kentstown, the Knockharley club has been the home of cricket in Meath for over 25 years and next Saturday not only will they host the Minor Cup final, but the club’s thirrd team will also play in the decider against Wexford Wanderers 2nds from 12.30pm.
“Our third team also play in the open minor cup competition and while we are delighted to be hosting the Minor Cup decider we never thought in our wildest dreams that we would be hosting a final we would actually be playing in,” said Knockharley captain Rajesh Adi.
“It’s a great achievement when the youngsters of Knockharley Cricket Club put all their efforts to get to this stage,” he added.
Knockharley 3 opened their Minor Cup campaign with a 159 runs win over Terenure 3 before accounting for Merrion 7 in the quarter-finals.
Ashbourne were the other Meath club in the competition, but they lost out in the preliminary round to Adamstown 5 by four wickets.
Tyrrellstown 2 put up a stiff test for Knockharley in the semi-final, but the Meath side proved too strong and with Wexford Wanderers overcoming DLP County 4 in
their semi-final it sets up an intriguing decider next Saturday.
