Navan teenager in baking final at Ploughing Championships
A NAVAN teenager is set to put his baking skills to the test today in the National Foroige Baking Semi Finals.
Jamie Mullen won regional heats and semi-finals to earn his place in the National Ploughing Championships in Ballintrane.
The 15-year-old Meath representative baked in front of judges at the regional and semi finals and his chocolate cake proved to have an extra special ingredient - mint- which proved enough to represent Meath in the national competition.
Competitiors today will have to bake in front of the audience in order to convince them that their cakes are best.
Having had two previous Meath Winners in the National Aldi/ Foróige Baking Competition, Jamie has made it third time lucky for Navan Young People’s Development Project (NYPD).
"Jamie is an active member of the NYPD Project and has baked with staff in the centre since he joined the project," says Emma Croghan, Senior Youth Officer, Foroige Meath.
"Jamie has an excellent skill set, including wood and metalwork and is also an excellent gardener. Luckily it appears that his baking skills are also top notch. He created an absolutely stunning chocolate fudge cake which he will now have to bake again at the Ploughing Championships.
"We would like to wish Jamie the very best of luck. The baking competitions are an excellent opportunity for young people across the country to showcase their baking talents and we would like to acknowledge all those in Meath who took part. The cakes were all delicious and it was a difficult job for the judges! A huge thank you to Foróige and Aldi for organising these competitions," she concluded.
