Flying Cavan man Bobby Coote for Navan film screening
Bobby Coote, subject of the award-winning documentary film, 'The Man Who Wanted To Fly', will take part in a questions and answers session after a screening of the film in Solstice, Navan, this week.
Eighty-something Cavan bachelor Coote left school at 13 and says his reading and writing isn’t great. He spends his days fixing clocks and making violins from old furniture. But he never lost sight of a lifelong dream to take to the skies. Inviting the help of his neighbour Sean, and the derision of his brother Ernie, Bobby sets about building a runway and a hangar and investing his life savings in his own private plane.
This charming and humorous film captures the wonder of one man’s dreams on a unique journey into a disappearing Irish border hinterland. 'The Man Who Wanted To Fly' won the coveted Best Feature award at the 2018 Guth Gafa Film Festival and was the Audience Award Best Feature winner at the Irish Film Institute Documentary Festival.
Solstice Arts Centre will screen the documentary on Thursday 3rd October, at 7.30pm, and will be joined by Booby Coote and director of photography, Dave Perry, on stage for a Q&A after the screening hosted by LMFM’s Sinead Brassil.
Tickets priced €8 / €6.50 are available from Solstice Box Office on (046) 909 2300 or on www.solsticeartscentre.ie.
