Keane and O'Brien make racing history with 100 plus winners each in a season
Trim man Colin Keane and Donnacha O'Brien are locked in a battle for the 2019 Irish Flat Jockeys' title with six more racing days before the end of the season.
Keane closed the gap on leader O'Brien (101-105) with two winners at Navan today but it's also the first time that two jockeys have managed a 100 winners apiece in a season so regardless of who wins the title, both are record-breakers this season.
O'Brien, who was also on the mark at Navan, is expected to land a second successive title after another incredible season that saw him add to his Classic haul in the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas on the Aidan O'Brien-trained Magna Grecia. At home, he won the Group 2 Beresford Stakes on his father’s Innisfree and the Group 2 Kilboy Estates Stakes on Red Tea, trained by his brother, Joseph and he has amassed 105 winners in Ireland this season so far.
Colin Keane, the 2017 champion, who had a the Group 1 success of the Ger Lyons-trained Siskin in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh in August as one of his highlights and he also had a big race win on Mustajeer in the UK.
