McNally hat-trick keeps Drogheda on promotion path
Drogheda centre-back Luke McNally hit a hat-trick last night to set Tim Clancy's up for a 5-1 second-leg victory against Cabinteely at United Park.
That gave Clancy's men a 6-2 aggregate victory in the final of the First Division promotion play-offs.
Drogheda now go to the promotion / relegation play-off final against ninth-placed Premier Division side Finn Harps who lost (0-4) against Derry City in what was a meaningless game for the Donegal men in the sense that there was nothing at
stake.
However, Derry had to win to make sure of European football next season.
This will be the second year in-a-row that Drogheda will face Harps in the play-offs, last year Harps were promoted from the First Divison as play-off wnners with UCD (champions).
UCD are already relegated and the winner (two legs) of Finn Harps v Drogheda will play in the 2020 Premier League.
This is Tim Clancy's second year at the helm in Drogheda.
Drogheda will welcome Harps to United Park on Monday, October 28, with kick-off at 7.45pm, before the second leg at Finn Park on Friday, November 1.
