Meath Pool Association update
The Meath Pool Association had limited action last weekend with most Div 1 teams not playing however Fox's and Carnaross decided to play their match. There was a full schedule of Div 2 matches scheduled.
DIVISION 1
Fox's v Carnaross
With Carnaross on a +2 handicap, Fox's had to start strong.
Philip Carolan started for them and with a decisive victory he got Fox's off to a good start.
Carnaross sprung into action with Paul Dunne, Eugene Yore and Colm Geraghty all taking great wins to put Carnaross 5-1 in front.
Fox's were not going to be outdone on their home ground and up stepped Martin Carolan and Joe Gillespie with two vital frames to keep Fox's in the match at 5-3.
The doubles started next but Carnaross made a major break by winning the first two doubles matches with
excellent performances by the pairs of Paul Glacken and John Dowd and Paul Dunne and Eugene Yore to
make it 7-3.
Tom Duignan and former Balreask player Danny Shields got Fox's back in the grove to make it 7-4.
With Carnaross only one frame from victory, Fox's had to go strong at the start and Tom Duignan did just that and made it 7-5.
Eugene Yore who is in very good form and took a big scalp for Carnaross by beating Phillip Carolan, a current Cavan A team player, a win which secured the points for Carnaross and moved them up the table
with an 8-5 win.
DIVISION 2
Balreask B Vs Bective B
With the Balreask B facing a very difficult task playing Bective B, the game started in that fashion when Noel Fahey got Bective B off to a 1-0 lead.
However, Balreask B were in no mood to let Bective B into the match.
Five straight wins for the Balreask showed their determination to win this match again with solid performances by Shane Dowdall, David Gilkeson, Stephen Potts, Tino Borez and Joe Mckeever putting it
5-1 for Balreask B.
In the doubles Balreask B were in fine form again with the pairs of Joe Mckeever and Shane Dowdall,
David Gilkeson and Stephen Smith and finally Stephen Potts and Tino Borez sealing victory with an 8-1 win, for a very solid Balreask B team performance.
McHughs Vs Thornes
With Thornes pushing pushing to go top and McHugh's also being pushed by Balreask B.
It was very important to get a win for both teams, making this a very important fixture.
With both teams exchanging frames in the opening ones Davy Buchanan got McHugh's underway first,
however Leon Maguire equalised for Thornes at 1-1.
Brain McLoughlin and Liam Buchanan won the next two settling McHughs in to a 3-1 lead.
Austin Gilmartin reduced the deficit to a single frame with a solid performance by the Thones player.
In another twist it was McHughs side to win the last with an excellent win for Sean Gough leaving it 4-2 at the end of the first singles.
With the pressure on Thornes, the pairs of Leon Maguire and Caolin Yore and Wayne Gilmartin and Barry
Gilmartin answered the call to bring the match level at 4-1.
Going into the last doubles there was a fantastic atmosphere in McHugh's with both teams buzzing for a
win but the home side got the final doubles win with the pair of Eugene Brady and Liam Buchanan getting
the win leaving it 5-4 for McHugh's.
Leon Maguire capped off a fantastic night's personal performance by winning all three matches he was
involved with equalizing the match at 5-5.
That however was the closest Thornes got as a dominant McHughs won the last three frames with wins for
Richie Farnan, Liam Buchanan and Brian Mcloughlin all winning leaving a final score line of McHugh's
8, Thornes 5 in a very entertaining match.
A special note to Liam Buchanan who also won his three matches that he was involved in for McHugh's.
