Ratoath College to drop its iPad only policy

Ratoath College is to drop its iPad-only policy for First Year students following the presentation of an independent report,which recommended books should be reintroduced.
The college was at the centre of controversy last summer as a group of parents campaigned against the school's policy that first year students must have an i Pad.
The independent digital review group's report recommended  that first-year students should no longer be required to buy a iPad  and that teaching and learning at the school should be based on a “blended approach” that involves textbooks and technology.
Nicola Kearns, the parent who led the campaign, said she was thrilled with the result.
"Without having seen the details, we are delighted. This will have implications, not just locally, but nationally,"she said.
Cllr Nick Killian, chair of the school's Board of Management said a full report will now be reviewed by the Board and  LMETB to decide on the practical implications associated with implementing the recommendations after which a presentation will be made to parents, as well as to students and staff.
