Big day for Bobbett as Welsh await
Tomorrow is a big day for Meath's Judy Bobbett as she is set to make her Women's Six Nations debut when she lines out for Ireland againist Wales at Donnybrook, 1pm.
After missing out on the Six Nations opener against Scotland last week Bobbett will take her place against Wales in what is a significant moment in her career. Ireland defeated the Scots 18-14 and will be looking to push on from there.
A former Meath Ladies goalkeeper and All-Ireland MFC B winning player with the Royals, Bobbett missed out on Ireland's opening game in the Six Nations against Scotland but now has been given a starting place in the second-row.
In an attempt to freshen up the team Ireland coach Adam Griggs has made a number of changes with Bobbett joining Aoife McDermott in the engine room.
Bobbett is a name that is synonymous with Ashbourne RFC as Pat Bobbett, Judy's grandfather, was one of those who played a big part in helping to establish the club while her father Charles Bobbett is also a long-term member.
Judy started her rugby career with Ashbourne at under-age level before moving on to Westmanstown and later Blackrock College. She has also played for Leinster. She follows in the footsteps of Marie Louise Reilly another Meath woman who played lock forward for Ireland.
Bobbett was called up to the international squad towards the end of last year for a training camp and an international clash with Wales which the Irish lost 13-15.
Now, after missing out on the Scottish game, she has taken a further, significant step forward in her career by getting selected for a high-profile Six Nations game which the Irish will do well to win.
