Toner plays role in impressive win over Wales
For the second successive week Devin Toner came on as a second-half substitute and helped Ireland to victory. Last week it was against Scotland today it was against Wales with the Men in Green defeating the visitors 24-14 at the Aviva Stadium in a performance that has attracted rave reviews.
Toner made an appearance after 67 minutes to earn his 69th cap coming on for Iain Henderson with Ireland going on to wrap up a victory achieved with bonus point after they ran in four tries from Jordan Larmour, Tadhg Furlong, Josh van der Flier and Andrew Conway. Johnny Sexton added two conversions.
The Welsh did get a very late try to put a gloss on the final scoreline. However Ireland were strong in the scrums and the set-pieces and in the physical confrontations and they provided themselves with a platform to overcome a fancied team in red who were expected by many to prevail.
Toner's appearance was another step back into the international limelight after he was dropped by Joe Schmidt for the World Cup.
Next up for Ireland and Toner is a game against England in Twickenham.
