Meath make it two from three with big performance
Overcoming the stormy conditions and a skilful Monaghan side Meath made it two wins from three in the Ladies NFL Div 2 when they defeated the Ulster side 1-13 to 0-9 at Dunganny today.
Having defeated Tyrone in the first round, Eamonn Murray's side lost to Cavan last week but they made up for that setback with a strong, confident performance today against a Monaghan side who are back in Div 2 after and extended stay of over 25 years in Div 1.
The home side played against a gael-force wind in the opening half yet they made light work of the conditions by playing possession football. Time and again they moved the ball up the field stringing pass after pass together and at the break they only trailed 0-4 to 0-6. Eamma White also had a shot rebound off the bar in that opening half.
They Royals took a big step towards victory just two minutes into the second-half when another of their fine moves was finished off by Bridgetta Lynch who shot to the net.
Monaghan worked hard to get back in front but Meath always had that extra edge to close out the deal. Stacey Grimes showed the way for the winners with seven points, frees, while Emma Duggan (two), Kelly Harris, Aoibhin Cleary, Niamh Gallogly and Megan Thynne also contributed points.
Louise Kerley played a significant role for Monaghan while Ciara McAnespie was only denied an early goal by a super save by Meath netminder Monica McGuirk. Those moments were all part of a memorable afternoon for Meath.
