Panda will recycle election posters free of charge

Panda has announced that it will accept and recycle all election posters free of charge at its recycling centres around the country.

After last year’s European and local elections, Panda recycled 42 tonnes of election posters, equal to 168,000 individual posters. Following the success of this initiative, the company  has again committed to providing an efficient recycling service to ensure that Ireland’s cities, towns and countryside are not blighted by election posters.

The posters will be shredded in Ireland with the material then used to make products such as paint tubs. Cable ties will also be accepted at the waste collection sites and will be recycled to manufacture fruit and vegetable trays.

Panda is hopeful that the availability of this free service will continue to encourage candidates to quickly take down their posters and bring them to be recycled. While there is no deadline for dropping the posters into the Panda sites, ideally posters would over the next few days as it is more efficient to recycle posters at the same time, in large batches.

Des Crinion, Managing Director, Panda Recycling Division said: “Following the success of last year’s initiative, we are delighted to be able to offer this service around the country and play our part in alleviating the issue of election waste. I would urge all political parties, candidates and local county councils to make use of the service we’re providing.”

Panda operates 21 recycling centres nationwide. For further information on how to recycle election posters contact poster@panda.ie
