Projector and screen donation brightens up the day for St Mary's Special school kids

The mother of a child who attends a special care unit in St Mary’s Special School in Johnstown has thanked a local businessman for making a donation that will ‘change the lives’ of the children who attend.
Parents Association Secretary for the school, Ruth Lawlor has praised Bohermeen man, Ken Fox, Managing Director of D.I.D Electrical for his generous donation of a projector and projector screen for the school so the children can have their own ‘cinema time.’
Ruth’s daughter Chloe is a student in the special care unit which is a nurse-led unit and a part of St Mary’s special school.

Ruth has told of how the children currently have ‘no access to a playground’ as ‘vandalism is frequent’ in a small grassy area that is easily accessed from the car park.
Up until now, they used a projector on loan from the main school whose premises are located separately about 5km away and they project onto a white wall. To bring the fun inside, Ruth had the idea of getting a projector screen.

“Mr Ken Fox is a native of Bohermeen and was very touched meeting the staff and children. He made a wonderful gesture with the projector and white screen and the children will now enjoy a cinema Friday in a communal area in the SCU because of his kindness.

“We as a community need to look after these very needy children and we want people to be aware of the wonderful dedication and hard work by the staff that goes on behind closed doors in our community.

“We would be grateful for any businesses to come forward to support us or make a donation to our school that is a registered charity.
“Until the new school is built, our main objective is to enhance the lives of the children attending both St Mary’s and the SCU by making sure that anything deemed suitable to making their school a fun happy and engaging place is purchased for the children attending.”

Ciara Magee Marketing Manager for DID Electrical said:
“We were so impressed by Ruth and her enthusiasm to make a difference for such a worthy cause and we’re hoping that our donation of a projector and projector screen will have a small part to play in improving the children’s day in school and free up funds raised by the parents association for other improvements.”
