Geraghty lands RSA and Coral Cup on Day Two
After landing the feature Champion Hurdle on Day One of the Cheltenham Festival, Meath jockey Barry Geraghty was back in the winners enclosure on the double (so far) on Day Two.
Geraghty won the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase with the Nicky Henderson-trained Champ and followed up in the Coral Cup with Dame De Compagnie, also trained by Henderson and both owned by JP McManus.
Champ jumped the last almost 10 lengths adrift of the leaders, but a late surge earned a one-length victory.
"It looked like he was going to be an honourable third — I was watching the front two and all of a sudden he appeared in the picture. I was thinking, ‘how has he got here," stated the trainer.
Geraghty, Henderson and owner McManus were back in the winners' enclosure some 40 minutes later when Dame De Compagnie had over two lengths to spare from the Gordon Elliott-trained Black Tears in the £100,000 Coral Cup.
