'Stop dumping your gloves and wipes'
Disposal gloves and wipes are being dumped in public areas around the county - leading to calls on the public to stop this disgusting practice.
Cllr Mike Bray has called on members of the public to discard this waste in a safe and proper manner.
Cllr Bray raised the matter after he was contacted by community groups and businesses who were concerned about the issue.
“During the current crisis it is understandable that members of the public are taking extra measures to protect themselves from Covid-19. However, this needs to done in a manner which does not put others in danger and create litter in our towns and villages,” said Cllr. Bray.
“I have been speaking with a number of volunteers in community groups as well as businesses who have noticed a large amount of disposable gloves and wipes been thrown in car-parks, footpaths and on the side of the road.
“Someone still has to pick these items up and dispose of them. This is very unfair on the community volunteer or member of staff who are putting themselves at further risk as a result.
“It is also a littering offence and those who are simply tossing gloves or wipes out of their car in public areas should be pursued and fined like any other offence. It is even more serious during the current crisis as people are trying to limit their exposure to the virus.
