Meath's Sinead Hackett surges away from a Derry opponent.

Meath back on track

For the second successive week Meath made the trip to Ulster to face a team from the same province in the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship - and this time they returned home with a victory.

Last week Brendan Skehan's side lost to Antrim in Inniskeen.

However today the Meath manager brought his side to Templeport St Aidan's ground in Cavan and his troops deservedly carved out a 1-13 to 0-8 victory over Derry.

The game was a close, tight affair in the opening half - a reality that was reflected at the break when the sides were level a 0-6 apiece.

The second-half proved to be a very different affair as Meath up their game a few notches and deservedly ran out winners.

A major moment in the game came about in the 48th minute when Meath's Sinead Hackett picked up a pass and smashed the ball to the Derry net.

That put Meath 1-9 to 0-7 in front and from then on they always looked the most likely winners.

Jane Dolan capped another enterprising display for Meath with 0-5, three frees while Leah Dennehy hit three points as did Aoife Minogue in an impressive performance.

Amy Gaffney and Aoife Maguire were others to point to the visitors from Leinster.

Karen Kielt topscored for Derry with four points but they were unable to get the goal they so badly needed. Meath march on.
