Keane Barry ready for Darts World Championships

Duleek teenager and current Meath Young Sportsperson of the Year Keane Barry will be in action at the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Championships at the Alexandra Palace in London this evening.

The tournament is the major event in the world of darts and is covered live by Sky TV.

Barry will be aiming to get off to a good start when he takes on the experienced Jeff Smith in the first round, 8pm.

If Barry wins that contest he will come up against Chris Dobey on Wednesday.

Twelve months ago Barry carved his name in darts history when he made his debut appearance in the William Hill World Darts championships at the Alexandra Palace.

The then 17-year-old was the youngest Irish player to appear in the championships and was drawn to play against the highly-ranked Dutch opponent Vincent van der Voort.

Last January at the Meath Chronicle annual Meath Sports Awards he scooped the young sportsperson of the year accolade.
