Just Brilliant by a neck for Sarah Lynam at Dundalk

It's not too often that a father and a daughter will each train a runner in the same race, but it happens from time-to-time at Dundalk when Sarah and Eddie Lynam send the horses on the relatively short trip from Dunshaughlin.

This evening at the Louth venue daughter and father had two runners each and clashed in the one-mile Irishinjuredjockeys.com handicap where it was Just Brilliant that had the edge for Sarah as the first six home all hailed from the Royal County.

The Sarah Lynam-trained Just Brilliant shaded a tight finish from the Siobhan Rutledge partnered Kudbegood.

There was another family duel for third and fourth as the Gerry Keane-trained Ranger Bob got past the post ahead of the Colin Keane-partnered Farnese (trainer father and jockey son).

The winner, partnered by Ben Coen had a neck to spare over the runner-up at the post.

Runner-up Siobhan Rutledge spent some time working with Eddie Lynam (Sarah's father) after she finished at RACE and at least tonight managed to make it a one-two for the females as the Eddie Lynam-trained Florence Thompson completed the top six behind the Gavin Cromwell-trained Muraahin.

Coen and Just Brilliant challenged inside the final furlong and edged the verdict by a neck over the John McConnell-trained Kudbegood.

The winner was previously trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and as a yearling was purchased for £150,000 and won first-time out as a juvenile in October 2017, but not since until this one at Dundalk.

"He was quite sulky when I got him and I probably overdid it sweetening him up," commented Sarah Lynam in a post-race interview with irishracing.com.

"Hopefully there is another one in him and it’s a nice way to start the year,” she added.
