Gardai investigating false WhatsApp report about former Trim councillor

Gardai are investigating following a fake social media message circulated this morning on WhatsApp concerning former Trim councillor, Willie Fay.

Mr Fay, a well-known cattle dealer, contacted Trim Gardai following a false report, purporting to be a Garda press release carrying the Garda Siochana emblem, relating to a supposed shooting incident near the former councillor’s home in the early hours of Monday morning.

“It has been very distressing to myself and my family, and I am very upset about it. It is now in the hands of the gardai, who are attempting to find the source, ” Mr Fay says.
