Tough race for Andrew Coscoran
Star of the Sea athlete Andrew Coscoran was in action in France this evening in a competitive indoor 1,500m only five days after clocking a personal best of 3:37.20 at a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meet.
Coscoran ran in the 5th edition of the Meeting Indoor de l'Eure (Meeting Élite de l'Eure in Val de Reuil) and finished in a time of 3.41:62.
The fast-paced event was won by Getnet Wale (ETH) in 3.35:54 with Lamecha Girma (ETH) in second place in 3.35:60 and Eliot Giles (GBR) third in 3.36:90.
Another Irish runner, Paul Robinson (St Coca’s AC Kilcock) was also in the race and finished sixth in 3.39:36 while Coscoran crossed the line in 10th.
Speaking to the Meath Chronicle yesterday about the race, Star of the Sea chairman Brendan Meade remarked - "The Ethiopians have no times against their names so they could be dark horses,"- a comment that was accurate as Meade assessed the runners.
Coscoran's time this evening was similar to when he won the 2020 All-Ireland Indoor 1,500m title and set a new championship record (3.41) in the process which eclipsed James Nolan's record of 3.44 that was set in 2006.
The Star of the Sea athlete may get to compete this coming weekend at the Athletics Ireland hosted Indoor Micro Meet for invited high performance athletes at the National Indoor Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
