Dry and bright today but rain and risk of flooding tonight
Weather Update
A largely dry and bright day today with long spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, increasing moderate to fresh through the afternoon.
The latest weather bulletin from Met Éireann says it will become very wet and windy tonight as persistent and heavy rain spreads from the west, bringing a risk of localised flooding. Winds will increase overnight also, with strong to near gale force southeast winds developing, reaching gale force on coasts. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees, but gradually becoming milder as the rain spreads.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) it will remain wet and windy with further spells of rain, heavy at times, bringing the continued risk of localised flooding. Highest temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees in fresh to strong southerly winds.
The overview for the coming days is for continuing unsettled conditions through midweek but becoming more settled for the end of the week with mainly dry conditions and sunny spells.
Heavy rain will persist early on Tuesday night, particularly in the east and south. However, rain will gradually become lighter and patchier overnight, with dry spells developing in the west and north. Staying breezy with fresh southerly winds, strong on western coasts. Mild with lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.
Remaining wet in the east and south on Wednesday as rain continues through much of the day before gradually clearing during the evening. However, there will be dry spells in the north and west with scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.
Showers will persist in the west early on Wednesday night while elsewhere will be largely dry with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in a light to moderate southwest breeze.
A bright and mainly dry day is forecast for Thursday with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate westerly breeze.
It will remain largely dry with long clear spells on Thursday night. However, there will be scattered light showers in the west and northwest. Becoming quite cold with lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with the risk of frost forming in a light southwesterly or variable breeze.
A mainly dry and bright day on Friday with long spells of sunshine and just isolated showers in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in a light southerly breeze.
Current indications suggest that the weekend will remain largely dry with sunny spells on Saturday and Sunday. However, scattered showers will affect the west and southwest at times.
