Oldcastle native appointed appointed Assistant Garda Commissioner

Oldcastle native, Patrick Clavin has been appointed to the rank of Assistant Commissioner in the Garda Síochána.

He had been appointed to the role of Acting Assistant Commissioner in April 2020 and has had responsibility for Governance and Accountability in the Garda Síochána since that time.

His appointment was made to fill a vacancy in the rank arising from an appointment to Deputy Commissioner earlier this month.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has welcomed his appointment by the Policing Authority

Prior to being appointed as an Acting Assistant Commissioner, Pat Clavin was most recently a Detective Chief Superintendent heading the Criminal Assets Bureau.

Commissioner Harris said, "This appointment is very welcome. Pat has 39 years of policing experience across a wide variety of roles and areas in An Garda Síochána. His operational and professional standards experience will be of immense benefit to the organisation,” said Commissioner Harris.

Most recently Assistant Commissioner Clavin had been Chief Bureau Officer of the Criminal Assets Bureau since mid-2016. He was previously Chief Superintendent, Garda Professional Standards Unit, Chief Superintendent, Internal Affairs, and Chief Superintendent, DMR West. He was also a Superintendent in a number of Garda districts.
