Tim Clancy claims 2020 Outstanding Achievement Award

Trim man Tim Clancy scooped a 2020 Meath Chronicle Outstanding Achievement award at the annual presentations that were in a virtual format this year.

Tim Clancy is set to start his fourth season at the helm of Drogheda Utd after guiding the Louth club back to the Premier League following a three-year stint in the First Division.

Three seasons and two near misses were all forgotten about at Stradbrook last October as the Trim man guided Drogheda Utd back to the top flight of League of Ireland football for 2021.

Trim man Clancy took the reins at the Louth club late in 2017 after they were relegated to the First Division and he took the Louth men to the promotion play-offs in 2018 losing out to Finn Harps.

In 2019 Clancy took Drogheda a step further, to the play-off final, but once again they lost out to Harps in the two-legged play-off final with the Donegal side winning 2-1 in extra-time in the second leg at Finn Park.

Last season Drogheda got the automatic promotion place with second-half goals from James Brown and Meath man Luke Heeney that sealed the title as they defeated Cabinteely by 2-0.

Tim Clancy had a lengthy career with clubs in England and Scotland before moving back to Ireland.

Here he played in the League of Ireland for Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers and Bray Wanderers before taking the reins at Drogheda Utd at the end of 2017.

Drogheda will host Waterford in the opening game of the new League of Ireland season next Friday evening at United Park.

Central to the presentation of the awards is the contribution and support from sponsors Meath County Council, Devenish Nutrition, Knightsbrook Hotel Spa & Golf Resort, Ecomm Merchant Solutions and Utmost International.
