Keane and Lyons land last with Lust

Champion jockey Colin Keane and trainer Ger Lyons got a winner on the board on the opening day of the Guineas Festival at the Curragh when landing the last with Lust.

Both Keane and Lyons had gone close in earlier contests and the wait for a winner was worth it as Lust scored by two lengths in a seven-furlong handicap from the Joseph O'Brien-trained Liffey River.

Lust had won over the same distance at Gowran Park in April.

The feature race was the 2,000 Guineas and it was dominated by trainer Jim Bolger who had a one-two with Epsom Derby-bound Mac Swiney edging out stable companion Poetic Flare.

TOMORROW

Colin Keane will team up with trainer Noel Meade tomorrow at the Curragh in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup when he partners Helvic Drean in the 10-furlong contest for which the Aidan O'Brien-trained Broome is favourite.

Broome had two lengths to spare on Helvic Dream three weeks ago at the Curragh in a Group 2 race

FRANCE

The Matthew Smith-trained Ronald Pump was in action at Auteuil today in the French Champion Hurdle, but was well beaten and finished in fifth place for jockey Robbie Power.
