The first three home in the Challenge Cycling Club's (Galway) A3 Perpetual Cup today

Smart victory for Navan Road Club's John Murray

Navan Road Club's John Murray was the top man today at the Challenge Cycling Club's (Galway) A3 Perpetual Cup at Craughwell today.

Murray and antoher Navan member Sean Lenihan took part and it turned out to be a good day as apart from Murray winning, Lenihan was a close third with the Meath duo separated at the line by a Clonard cycllist Mark Shields who edged the runner-up position.

On the outward leg from Craughwell to Ballinasloe six riders worked hard to keep a gap from the main bunch.

It all came together again at the roundabout in Ballinasloe and another breakaway group immediately formed off the front of the bunch for the return leg into the wind.

Despite the strong effort from the breakaway, it all came together again about 5 km out from Cruaghwell, a late attack by David Gordon and Kevin Molyneaux was reeled in just before the finish and resulted in the inevitable sprint which was won by John Murray of Navan Road Club.
