Conservation study for Ardmulchan cemetery
A SPECIALIST conservation company is to undertake a conservation assessment of Ardmulchan graveyard next month.
Navan and District Historical Society, supported by funding from Meath County Council has engaged the company to undertake a conservation assessment of the graveyard in July.
At a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week, Cllr Francis Deane was told the assessment will include: a site visit and photographic survey, identifying conservation issues within the site to include the boundary walls, church remains, grave markers and any other above-ground features and providing a schedule of conservation recommendations for the site and its structural features.
It will also include a Heritage Week project to highlight the site’s conservation needs and management.
Cllr Deane had asked about the survey and if applications been submitted for heritage grants for Ardmulchan graveyard and the Old Athlumney graveyard.
He was told an inspection was undertaken at Old Athlumney graveyard and no structural issues with the boundary walls were identified.
