Residents urged to view Julianstown traffic calming scheme plan
Local Fine Gael councillor, Sharon Tolan has today called on residents in Julianstown and members of the public who travel through Julianstown on a daily basis, to view the plans for the new Julianstown Traffic Calming Scheme and make a submission to An Bord Pleanala.
“The traffic issues in Julianstown are twofold. Firstly, we have 22,000 vehicles travelling through this small village on a daily basis, pre-Covid obviously," commented Tolan.
"During peak times, commuters are left sitting bumper to bumper for considerable periods. The best solution for that is ultimately a by-pass which we are working to progress.
"However, off-peak, motorists regularly break the speed limit through the village, and it can be exceptionally dangerous for other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in the area. This scheme aims to address that.
"It will slow traffic down by narrowing the carriageway and introducing raised tables at key junctions, whilst providing widened shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians and a continued footpath on the west side of the village, which currently has limited pedestrian space.
Tolan went on to say that she was disappointed that there is no plan for a raised table at the Laytown Junction as "this is one of the most difficult junctions to exit from, especially if you are turning right towards Drogheda."
She said that she would be including this in her submission and hopes there will be opportunities to include this at a later date adding that she would not like to see the plan delayed in any way.
"It’s a long time in the making, but I do think it’s important that the public are aware of it, and have an opportunity to view the plans online at www.meath.ie
"As always, if anyone has any questions, I am available to discuss it with them. This is a step closer to making Julianstown a more pleasant and much safer village for residents and visitors alike.”
The deadline for submissions is 5.30pm on Monday 12th July 2021, and should be sent to An Bord Pleanala, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, D01 V902.
