FAI summer soccer camp postponed after Covid case confirmed
Dozens of children and their parents have been left disappointed after their FAI summer soccer camp was shut down after a positive Covid-19 case was confirmed at the site.
Children attending the Balrath Girls/Boys FC camp at the new Kentstown Village Park venue were just two days in to their scheduled five days of activities when the news broke. The camp ran from 10am to 1pm each day and is one of many being run by the FAI across Meath and nationwide.
In a statement issued to parents and guardians just before midnight last night, the FAI said the camp would close with immediate effect and appealed to parents not to attend the camp in Kentstown this morning (Wednesday, 28th July).
"The Football Association of Ireland regrets to inform you that we have suspended the FAI Summer Soccer School at Balrath Girls/Boys FC in County Meath with immediate effect following a positive COVID-19 case.
"This decision has been taken in the interests of the safety of all players and coaches on the camp. This decision is a precautionary measure. Public Health will be in contact with you in the coming days if your child is deemed to be a close contact of the positive case. If you are in any way concerned about your child’s health, please contact your GP.
"We will now work with Balrath Girls/Boys FC on an alternative date to reschedule this camp. If this is not suitable, the FAI is happy to offer you a full refund. If you are waiting on any SSS kit or footballs, we will distribute this if the camp is rescheduled or arrange delivery to you if this is not suitable.
"The health and safety of all our players, coaches and volunteers is paramount to the FAI and please be assured that all FAI protocols and Government guidelines have been followed throughout this camp. If you have any queries, please email sss@fai.ie and we will respond to you as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this postponement may cause.
"Finally, can I please ask that you do not attend the camp venue for any reason on Wednesday morning, July 28th.
