Man killed in Blayney road accident is named
The man who died following a road accident in Castleblayney yesterday morning has been named as local man, Fionán Callan, who has family connections in County Cavan.
Aged in his 20s, Fionán was from Drumlandrick and a popular employee at Keenan Stainless Steel. Son of Brian and Bernadette, his grandmother is Maisie O’Reilly from Killann, Shercock.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6.40am yesterday morning (Tuesday), August 3.
Two cars collided on the R181 in the townland of Muldrumman, outside Castleblayney.
Emergency services attended the scene. Fionán was the driver of one car and was seriously injured during the collision. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where he later passed away.
The road was closed for a time but has since reopened.
Gardaí in Castleblayney are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the Muldrumman area between 6.15am and 7am yesterday morning, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam), are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Funeral arrangements
Fionán is sadly missed and remembered with love by his heartbroken and devastated family, parents Brian and Bernadette; brothers Aodhan and Conor; sisters Niamh and Sinéad; girlfriend Michaela Slowey; grandmother Maisie O’Reilly (Killann, Shercock); aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours, many friends and his work colleagues at Keenan Stainless Steel.
Fionán’s funeral cortège will travel from the family home on Friday morning at 10.30am to arrive at St Patrick’s Church, Broomfield, for funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.

Due to current Government and HSE guidelines on Covid 19, the Callan family home is private and Fionán’s funeral Mass will be celebrated in the presence of his family.
