A BUDGET of €1.25 million is to be spent on upgrading wards in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, in the National Health Capital Plan for 2021 the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly has confirmed.

Ward refurbishment will include works to male and female inpatient nightingale wards to provide sub-divisions and WC/shower facilities to improve social distancing and Infection prevention and control.

Local EU Affairs Minister and Meath East TD welcomed the funding announcement by the Health Minister.

“This is super news for county Meath and indeed the northeast. This funding seeks to bolster and enhance the patient experience at Our Lady’s Hospital.”

In a separate new project, there will be modifications to theatres to make second theatre operational for elective surgery, to free theatres in Mater to deal with Covid-specific and backlog procedures.

According to Senator Shane Cassells the funding is a great boost of confidence in Our Lady’s and part of an overall plan that will secure it’s long term future.

“It’s great to see investment in the theatres and wards of Our Lady’s Hospital which is so important to the people of Meath.

“This comes on the back of the lodging of the planning application this month for the new €35m Primary Care Centre beside the hospital grounds, which will be the largest in Ireland.”
