Community comes out for Zak
When one of your community needs help you dig deep and help out. That’s what a small group of Silverlawn Residents did to help the family of Zak Moran, an 11-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant brain tumor back in May 2021. Mags and Declan Coogan, Joanie and Keith McEvatt, Marta Nash and Mags Hain got together on the green and came up with an idea to bring the community together and help.
Last Saturday morning they were up at the crack of dawn setting up, only being forced to take a break due to very heavy rain. The weather did not look promising but the spirit around all the volunteers was beyond words.
As the afternoon went on, people started to come and show their support despite the awful weather conditions. All of a sudden from around the corner appeared Zak and so did the sun and hence began in earnest our family fun day ....
There was a DJ, live music, face painting, lovely new t-Shirts, fabulous wrist bands, bake and book sale, popcorn and hot dogs. Kids played football, sack race and egg spoon run but the highlight for everyone was when Cookie Monster came to visit. There were raffle tickets and an auction with some amazing prizes donated by so many generous people and businesses. People laughed and talked, people bonded and supported! Everyone did.
The event finished off with very heavy rain but it didn’t matter because this amazing day that was put together in just three weeks raised exactly E7,347.50 thanks to the generosity of the people on the day, people who donated and local businesses that supported this idea.
The organisers in particular wish to thank the Staunton's life pharmacy and CT nutrition and an anonymous sponsor for the insurance for the day as well as all the other local businesses that sponsored the event!
