Birthday celebrations for Thomas on his 101st Birthday!
There were great celebrations in Millbury Nursing Home in Navan when its oldest and one of its most active residents celebrated his 101st birthday.
Thomas Quinn was born over a century ago in Westport, Co Mayo and his family and residents of Millbury joined with him to celebrate this milestone in the nursing home.
“He received a medal from An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin to mark his birthday,” according to Annemarie Galvin of Millbury Nursing Home.
“Last year on his 100th birthday he received a cheque from President Michael D Higgins.”
Despite his great age, Thomas is still active and was living relatively independently with one of his daughters last year on his 100th birthday.
“Thomas is a lovely man, full of with and jokes. He goes for walks and loves a sing song.”
Thomas has lovely memories of growing up in Westport and was a military policeman as a young man and for two years worked at government buildings at night.
He enjoyed car games on a Friday night and worked as a roofer for years.
He met his late wife, Helena in the Ballerina Ballroom in Dublin and they had five children – Bernie, Marie, Paul, Thomas and Patrick. They have 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
