New water mains works get underway in Ballivor
Work began on the installation of new water mains in Ballivor yesterday (Monday) to help relieve some of the critical supply issues in the area.
Works involve the installation of approximately 450 metres of new modern high-density polyethylene pipes along the L4015 to connect two existing supplies.
The work will help to secure part of the network in Ballivor where supply is being supplemented by tankered water.
Cllr Aisling Dempsey cautiously welcomed the upgrade works.
"A mains upgrade and replacement of old pipes is of course very welcome news. Short term interruptions may happen and I will give as much advance notice as possible of same, where possible.
“However, we still need a proper reservoir delivered for Ballivor and I will continue to raise this with Irish Water,” she said.
Short-term interruptions to water supply may be necessary while works are ongoing, but Irish Water says it will ensure that customers are given advanced notice of any planned disruptions to supply.
To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, traffic management will be in place. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted and emergency and restricted local access will be maintained.
Cllr Dempsey said the use of tankered water and continuous issues with supply must be alleviated in Ballivor.
“The reservoir in Longwood is now planned which of course is very positive but certainly Ballivor and Enfield should not be so far behind".
Cllr Dempsey also confirmed that the Newtown Road/Rathnally mains upgrade works in Trim are now completed.
"I'd like to commend the workmanship involved and the efforts to keep disruption to a minimum for residents. 1000m of problematic water mains have been replaced and supply should be much more reliable into the future."
