AIB bank services to be cut in Trim branch
AIB chiefs have responded to concerns from angry residents on their decision to slash bank services in Trim.
From the 13th December this year the Trim branch will no longer offer transactions over the counter such as cash, cheques, coin, foreign exchange and bank draft services but locals have been told they can still access these services in their Navan outlet 15km away.
The comes as bank chiefs say that more customers are banking online, using their mobile app and making contactless payments.
Residents have vented their anger at the development on a local Facebook page with one fuming:
“We will have to go to Navan to get over the counter services, so much for supporting the rapidly growing local community!”
A spokesperson said that in recent years, AIB has seen an unrelenting reduction in some of the ways customers use their branches, they added:
“Customers are now interacting with our digital app more than 1.54 million times a day, compared with 35,000 daily branch visits. At the same time, we’ve found that there has been a 39% decline in branch cash transactions since 2019.
“As a result, we have written to customers in our Trim branch to inform them that from the 13th December we will no longer offer transactions over the counter such as cash, cheques, coin, foreign exchange and bank drafts.
“However we will continue to provide customers with an ATM outside the branch where they can withdraw cash. All of these transactions will still be available at Navan, 15 km away or at any other full-service AIB branch.
“Customers can continue to use our cash and cheque lodgement machines to deposit cash and cheques, to withdraw money, and our dedicated team will still be on hand to help. Additionally, with AIB at An Post we will continue to support customers at their local post office in Trim, which is next door, where they can carry out the majority of their day-to-day banking transactions.”
